Project Information:
Landari Waddamana 2025 is a plantation forestry project located near the rural locality of Waddamana in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. Situated approximately 115 kilometers northwest of Hobart and 30 kilometers south of Miena, the project covers 233.76 hectares of rugged terrain. Registered on December 17, 2025, the initiative is situated in a region historically significant for establishing Tasmania's hydro-electric scheme, now predominantly used for forestry, grazing, and energy infrastructure.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. specifically utilizing the "avoided conversion" activity (Schedule 3). This methodology credits projects for maintaining an established plantation forest that was at clear risk of being converted to a non-forest land use, such as cleared grazing land. By committing to continue the plantation cycle, harvesting and replanting trees, the project prevents the release of carbon stored in the biomass and soil that would occur during land clearing and conversion.
Environmentally, the Waddamana region is characterized by a cool temperate climate with harsh winters, frequent frosts, and occasional snow. The area receives high annual rainfall, typically ranging between 900mm and 1400mm, supporting robust tree growth. The landscape features stony, well-drained soils derived from Jurassic dolerite, often classified as Dermosols or Ferrosols. These soils are fertile enough to support tall forests but are frequently rocky, making them challenging for intensive agriculture but suitable for timber plantations.
Landari Pty Ltd, the project proponent, is an experienced developer in the Australian carbon market with a portfolio of similar forestry projects across Tasmania and Victoria. The project site's proximity to the historic Waddamana Power Station, the first hydro-electric power station in Tasmania, adds a layer of historical industrial context to the modern carbon-farming operations now securing the land's future forestry use.
