Geandale Soil Carbon Project
ERF206325
Project Information:
Geandale Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located at "Geandale Station," approximately 45km south of Cobar in central New South Wales. Registered on January 22, 2026, the project covers a significant area of 8,737.95 hectares within the semi-arid Cobar Peneplain bioregion. The property is owned and managed by Simon and Laura Prince, who transitioned from careers in trades to take over the family station from Simon's parents in 2022.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. The Princes have partnered with Carbon Link Operations Pty Ltd to implement these changes. Central to their strategy is the adoption of regenerative grazing principles, supported by their participation in the "Soils and Landscape Drought Resilience Program." By utilizing tools such as MaiaGrazing and following Resource Consulting Services (RCS) principles, the proponents aim to alter stocking rates and grazing duration to enhance ground cover, improve perennial grass density, and build drought resilience in the landscape.
The region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with a median annual rainfall of approximately 390mm, which can be highly variable. The local environment typically features red earth soils (Chromosols) and grey/brown Vertosols, supporting rangeland grazing of sheep and goats. Geandale Station itself is known for running a premier Dorper sheep flock. The project activities are designed not only to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) but also to buffer the grazing business against the "boom and bust" cycles typical of western NSW rainfall patterns.
