ELVA Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
ELVA Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 25 kilometers west of Swan Hill in the Mallee region of Victoria. Registered in October 2025, the project covers a project area of 516.87 hectares. The site is situated near the locality of Ultima, within a region heavily utilized for dryland broadacre cropping (such as wheat, barley, and canola) and livestock grazing.
This project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This high-integrity methodology requires the proponent to physically measure soil carbon levels at the start (baseline) and at subsequent intervals to calculate carbon abatement. The specific management activity registered for this project involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material soil deficiencies, a practice designed to boost plant growth and subsequently increase the organic carbon stock stored in the soil profile.
The environmental conditions in the Swan Hill Mallee region are characterized as semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 320mm to 350mm. The landscape typically features calcareous earth, sandy loams, and in some low-lying areas, cracking clay (Vertosol) soils. These soils often have low organic carbon baselines, presenting a significant opportunity for uplift through improved management practices like the nutrient applications planned by the proponent, Agriprove Solutions.
