Project Information:

ACP CBA 2025_3 is a Plantation Forestry project located in the locality of Kinglake West, approximately 55km northeast of Melbourne, Victoria. Registered on June 26, 2025, the project covers 231.6 hectares within the Kinglake Ranges. The region is characterized by a mix of state forest, remnant native vegetation, and agricultural land historically utilized for potato and berry farming.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. It specifically falls under the "avoided conversion" category (Schedule 3 of the method). This means the project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by committing to maintain an existing plantation forest that was at significant risk of being cleared and converted to non-forested land (such as cropping or grazing). The proponent must demonstrate that converting the land to agriculture would have been a viable and financially attractive alternative to continuing forestry.

Environmentally, the Kinglake West area is situated in a high-rainfall zone, typically receiving between 1,000mm and 1,200mm annually. The terrain features the deep, red volcanic soils (Ferrosols) typical of the Kinglake Plateau. These soils are famously fertile and well-drained, which supports the credible threat of conversion to intensive horticulture, as the land is highly suitable for high-value crops like potatoes and berries. By maintaining the plantation, the project secures carbon storage in the timber and root systems that would otherwise be released during land-use conversion.
