Youanmi Carbon Project

Project Information:
Youanmi Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 20km east of Dumbleyung in the Western Australian Wheatbelt. Registered in July 2025, the project covers 774 hectares of agricultural land in a region heavily utilized for mixed cropping (wheat, barley, lupins) and sheep grazing.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology, which credits landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks. This specific project aims to build carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil, a practice designed to boost plant growth and, consequently, the organic matter returned to the soil profile. Under this methodology, the proponent must conduct baseline soil sampling and subsequent sampling rounds to empirically measure carbon increases over time.
The Dumbleyung region typically experiences a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 400mm. The local landscape is characterized by sandy duplex soils and gravelly loams, which are common across the Southern Wheatbelt. Interestingly, while the project name "Youanmi" shares its title with a well-known historic gold mining center in the Murchison region (some 600km to the north), the coordinates confirm this carbon project is situated in the productive agricultural heartland of the Great Southern region.
