Talia

Talia is an Environmental Planting project located at Talia Station on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, sitting within the Elliston local government area approximately 40km north of the town of Elliston and adjacent to Kulliparu National Park. It was registered in June 2025 and covers a total project area of 2058.09 ha.

Environmental planting projects under the 2024 methodology involve establishing and maintaining permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species. To generate carbon credits, these plantings must be established at a sufficient stocking density to eventually achieve forest cover, typically meaning at least 200 stems per hectare to reach a minimum of 20% canopy cover and 2 metres in height. A standard requirement of this methodology is that the species mix must reflect the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community.

The Eyre Peninsula is traditionally known for dryland agriculture, primarily sheep grazing and cereal cropping, which has historically led to the clearing of much of the region's native vegetation. The area experiences a semi-arid, Mediterranean climate characterised by winter-dominated rainfall. Soils in this region are predominantly sandy loams and calcareous soils.

This project was specifically established to restore the critically endangered Drooping Sheoak grassy woodland, an ecosystem that has lost roughly 95% of its historical cover in the region. Developed as a joint initiative by Land Life, Carbon2Nature, and Cassinia Environmental, the project integrates strong cultural outcomes by collaborating with the Wirangu and Nauo Traditional Owners, which importantly includes the return of cultural fire to the landscape. In September 2026, the project's proponent role was officially transferred from Land Life Company Australia Pty Ltd to Carbon2Nature Australia Pty Ltd, positioning its parent company, Iberdrola, as the primary backer and offtaker of the generated high-integrity Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
