Oakstar Revegetation Project

Project Information:

The Oakstar Revegetation Project is an environmental planting project located in the Mid West region of Western Australia, approximately 10 kilometers southeast of the town of Perenjori. Registered in June 2025, the project covers 194.83 hectares of land in an area traditionally dominated by broadacre agriculture, specifically wheat cropping and sheep grazing.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM 2024 methodology. This method requires the establishment of permanent native forests on land that has been clear of forest cover for at least five years. The project activities involve planting a mix of native tree and shrub species reflecting the local vegetation community, designed to achieve "forest cover" status, defined as trees reaching at least 2 meters in height with 20% canopy cover. Given the location, the planting density and species selection are critical to meeting these thresholds in a semi-arid environment.

Environmentally, the Perenjori region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 300mm. The landscape typically features red sandy plains and loamy earth, often supporting native vegetation such as Acacia shrublands and Eucalypt woodlands. The proponent, Oakstar Asset Pty Ltd, appears to be a local family-operated entity with roots in the Perenjori community, also known for providing earthmoving and concrete services. They are working with Planfarm TerraWise, a specialist carbon farming advisory firm based in the Western Australian Wheatbelt, to manage the project's compliance and carbon modeling.
