Ceridale Yass

Project Information:
Ceridale Yass is a soil carbon sequestration project located at the "Ceridale" property, approximately 12 kilometers south of Yass in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in May 2025, the project covers 108.89 hectares of agricultural land typically used for grazing. The site sits within the Yass Valley, a region renowned for fine wool production and livestock grazing, situated roughly 50km north of Canberra.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method requires the proponent to implement new or materially different management activities to increase soil carbon stocks. For Ceridale Yass, the specific activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and altering grazing mechanics, such as stocking rate, duration, or intensity, to improve vegetation cover and soil health. These changes are designed to boost biomass production, which in turn sequesters more carbon into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Yass region is characterized by a temperate climate with a long-term average annual rainfall of approximately 650mm, often experiencing warm, dry summers and cool winters. The local soil landscape typically features texture-contrast soils known as Chromosols (duplex soils), which consist of loam topsoils overlying clay subsoils. These soils are often derived from sedimentary rocks or granites and can benefit significantly from improved nutrient management and groundcover retention to prevent erosion and build organic matter.
The project proponent is Body Pastoral Company Pty Ltd, working with carbon service provider Select Carbon Pty Ltd. The property "Ceridale" has been historically identified in local topographic maps near the "Warroo" locality and Gums Lane, confirming its position within this established agricultural district.
