Yarrow Road Carbon Project
ERF201727
Project Information:
The Yarrow Road Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near the rural village of Mendooran in the Central West region of New South Wales. Situated approximately 70 kilometers northeast of the major regional hub of Dubbo, the project covers a substantial area of 2,111 hectares. The site's coordinates place it directly in the vicinity of Yarrow Road, south of the Mendooran township, an area traditionally characterized by mixed farming operations including broadacre cropping and livestock grazing.
Registered in March 2025, the project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models). This method involves implementing new land management activities to sequester carbon in agricultural soils, which is then measured through physical soil sampling and estimation models. The project's specific registered activity involves applying nutrients to the land to address material deficiencies. In the context of the proponent, Loam Carbon Pty Ltd, this typically involves the application of their proprietary "CarbonBuilder" microbial seed coating. This technology uses fungal inoculants to enhance the plant's natural ability to store stable carbon in the soil while simultaneously addressing nutrient uptake, effectively fitting the regulatory definition of a soil amendment.
The Mendooran region typically experiences a warm temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 550mm to 600mm. The local landscape is often defined by Red Chromosols (red-brown earths) and sandy loams, which are well-suited to the cropping and grazing systems Loam Carbon targets. By introducing microbial fungi into this system, the project aims to increase soil organic carbon levels, providing the dual benefit of generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) and potentially improving soil health and crop resilience against drought.
