Oreen Station Plantation

ERF201602

Project Information:

Oreen Station Plantation is a plantation forestry project located at "Oreen Station," a rural property on Balls Road near the town of Bellbrook, New South Wales. Situated approximately 50km northwest of Kempsey in the Macleay Valley, the project was registered in April 2025 and covers roughly 202 hectares of the larger 964-hectare station. The surrounding region is historically significant for its cedar forests and is currently dominated by cattle grazing and mixed agricultural land use.

The Macleay Valley environment is characterized by a sub-humid climate with high annual rainfall (typically exceeding 1100mm) and fertile soils, ranging from alluvial river flats to clay loams on the hinterland slopes. These conditions are highly favorable for both timber production and pasture, which historically put the land at risk of clearing. Real estate records indicate that Oreen Station was sold in 2023, suggesting the carbon project may have been initiated by new owners seeking to diversify the property's income streams beyond traditional farming.

Operating under the 2022 Plantation Forestry methodology, this project involves transitioning an existing plantation forest into a permanent planting. Rather than harvesting the trees for timber as originally intended, the proponent, Nateva Australia (Acacia) Pty Limited, commits to retaining the forest permanently. This activity generates carbon credits by maintaining the stored carbon stock and preventing the emissions associated with harvest and the subsequent conversion of the land to non-forested pasture.
