Project Information:

Pardalote Schedule 3 2024 ACCU-Scheme Project is a plantation forestry project located across a dispersed aggregation of sites in Tasmania, primarily concentrated in the North West near Burnie and the Southern Midlands near Oatlands. Registered in March 2025, the project covers approximately 405 hectares and is managed by Forico on behalf of The Trust Company (Australia) Limited (Trustee for the Tasmanian Forest Operating Sub Trust).

The project operates under Schedule 3 of the Plantation Forestry Methodology 2022, which focuses on "Avoided Conversion." This specific activity allows proponents to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by committing to maintain plantation forests that were at clear risk of being converted to non-forest land uses, such as pasture for grazing. By continuing the plantation rotation instead of clearing the land for agriculture, the project ensures the carbon remains stored in the timber and soil.

The project sites encompass diverse environmental conditions typical of Tasmania's forestry estate. The North West sites (e.g., near Hampshire and Ridgley) are characterized by high rainfall and fertile red basalt (ferrosol) soils, supporting productive Eucalyptus nitens plantations. In contrast, the Southern Midlands sites (near Woodsdale) generally experience lower rainfall and feature soils more commonly associated with sheep and cattle grazing. The project name "Pardalote" follows the manager's convention of naming carbon projects after native Australian bird species found on their estate, emphasizing their dual focus on carbon and biodiversity.
