Kitoba Resurrection Enterprise Carbon Project
ERF200027
Project Information:
The Kitoba Resurrection Enterprise Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Kitoba, approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Goomeri in the South Burnett region of Queensland. Registered in February 2025, the project covers a project area of 39 hectares. The surrounding region is predominantly utilized for beef cattle grazing and mixed dryland farming, characterizing a landscape of rolling hills and open pasture.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Standard requirements involve baseline soil sampling to a depth of one metre, followed by the implementation of new activities, such as applying nutrients to address deficiencies, pasture cropping, or altering grazing intensity, to sequester carbon. Subsequent sampling rounds measure the increase in carbon stocks, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
Environmentally, the South Burnett region typically experiences a sub-tropical climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 700–800mm, with the majority falling in summer. The soils in the Kitoba area are variable but often include fertile Ferrosols (red earths) or Vertosols (cracking clays), which are highly responsive to the regenerative agriculture techniques proposed by the project, such as pasture rejuvenation and controlled grazing.
The project is developed by AgriProve, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia. The title "Resurrection" suggests a focus on rehabilitating degraded pasture to restore soil health and vegetation cover. By addressing material nutrient deficiencies and optimizing stocking rates, the project aims to improve the resilience of the agricultural system while generating carbon credits.
