Project Information:
AA2025E_TayeneP_S3 is a plantation forestry project located at the rural locality of Tayene, approximately 31km south of Scottsdale and 40km east of Launceston in Tasmania. It was registered in February 2025 and covers 80.95 ha.
Plantation forestry projects sequester carbon by establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation to long-rotation forests, or avoiding the conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation to non-forested land. The standard methodology requirements involve maintaining trees at specific stocking densities and managing forestry cycles to ensure long-term carbon storage and sustainable timber yields over the project's nominated permanence period.
The Tayene area and the broader northeastern Tasmanian highlands are well known for commercial forestry operations, as well as agriculture such as dairy farming and sheep grazing. The region is considered high rainfall, and its rich, fertile soils are generally deep basaltic red soils (Ferrosols) and clay loams.
The project's proponent is The Trust Company (Australia) Limited acting as the trustee for The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust. It is managed locally by SFM Environmental Solutions, a prominent Tasmanian forest management company. SFM is known for facilitating the ActivAcre program, an initiative backed by institutional investors that leases underutilized portions of farmland to establish long-rotation sustainable timber and carbon plantations without disrupting primary agricultural pursuits.
