"Little Plain Creek" - Planting Project

"Little Plain Creek" - Planting Project is an environmental planting project located along Little Plain Creek near Elands, inland from Port Macquarie and approximately 50km northwest of Taree in the Mid-Coast region of New South Wales. It was registered in September 2024 and covers a project area of 29.89 ha.

Environmental planting projects involve establishing permanent plantings of a mix of native tree species at a density sufficient to achieve forest cover, typically at least 200 stems per hectare. Under the FullCAM methodology, these plantings must occur on land that was predominantly used for agricultural purposes for at least five years prior to project commencement.

The surrounding Elands and Mid-Coast hinterland region is well known for beef cattle grazing, mixed farming, and rural lifestyle properties. The environment is considered a high rainfall area with a long history of reliable seasonal rain, supporting lush vegetation and natural springs that feed into local waterways and the nearby world-famous Ellenborough Falls. The region's agricultural viability is largely supported by its highly productive soils, which consist of fertile clays, loams, and pockets of rich volcanic earth.

This project was set up by proponents Bruce and Erica Burge to establish permanent native plantings using tree species indigenous to the local area. Beyond sequestering carbon, the project activities will help restore natural woodland habitats and improve local biodiversity on land that has a long history of agricultural clearing.
