Project Information:

"Little Plain Creek" - Planting Project is an environmental planting project located in the hinterland of the New South Wales Mid North Coast, approximately 30km southwest of Wauchope. Registered in September 2024, the project covers nearly 30 hectares of land within the Mid-Coast local government area. The project is managed by proponents Bruce and Erica Burge, suggesting a family-operated initiative on private agricultural land.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM methodology. This involves establishing permanent native vegetation on land that was historically cleared for agricultural use, such as grazing or cropping, for at least five years prior. The planting typically utilizes a mix of local native tree and shrub species designed to reach forest cover status, sequestering carbon in the biomass as they mature.

Regionally, the area near Byabarra and the Comboyne Plateau is characterized by a humid, high-rainfall climate that supports lush pasture and forestry. The terrain is often rolling to steep, with soils ranging from structured clays to loams, historically supporting beef cattle grazing and timber production. By reintegrating native tree cover, the project likely aims to improve local biodiversity, stabilize soils, and potentially provide shade and shelter belts for livestock.
