Brinkley Station Revegetation Project

Project Information:

The Brinkley Station Revegetation Project is a significant Environmental Planting project located in the locality of Brinkley, South Australia, approximately 16 kilometers southwest of the rural city of Murray Bridge. Registered in September 2024, the project encompasses a substantial area of roughly 6,000 hectares. The region is historically characterized by agricultural land use, specifically broadacre cropping and livestock grazing, situated within the Murray Mallee region west of the Murray River.

The project operates under the "Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings" methodology. This involves the permanent establishment of mixed-species native forests on land that was previously cleared for agriculture. The primary objective is to sequester carbon by restoring native vegetation, likely dominated by Mallee eucalypt species adapted to the local conditions. Under this method, plantings are typically established at densities sufficient to achieve forest cover (often exceeding 200 stems per hectare) and are modeled using the FullCAM system to calculate carbon abatement over time.

Environmentally, the Brinkley area is classified as semi-arid with a Mediterranean climate influence. The region typically experiences low annual rainfall, averaging between 300mm and 400mm, which presents a challenging but suitable environment for hardy native Mallee vegetation. The local soil profile is predominantly sandy to loamy sand, often overlaying calcareous subsoils or calcrete (limestone) layers, characteristic of the South Australian Mallee "dune and swale" landscape. The proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited, is a known subsidiary of the GreenCollar Group, a major player in the Australian environmental markets sector.
