Krambach Mountain Reforestation

Project Information:

Krambach Mountain Reforestation is an environmental planting project located on the north-eastern side of Krambach Mountain, approximately 30 kilometers inland from Taree on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. Registered in August 2024, the project area covers 124.81 hectares, which corresponds with the "Dungannon Farm" property owned by the proponent, Tyrone O'Neill. The site has a long history of agricultural use, having been used for beef cattle grazing for over 100 years prior to the project's commencement.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings FullCAM methodology, which credits carbon abatement for establishing permanent native forests on land that was previously clear of forest cover. While the methodology generally requires stocking densities sufficient to achieve forest crown cover (typically at least 200 stems per hectare), this specific project has targeted a higher density of approximately 500 stems per hectare. The plantings utilise locally endemic species designed to restore critical habitat for the Koala, Spotted-tailed Quoll, and Squirrel Glider.

Situated in the verdant Mid North Coast hinterland, the region is characterised by a high rainfall climate, receiving an average of over 1100mm annually, which supports lush vegetation and productive grazing. The local landscape typically features Chromosol and Dermosol soils, structured clays and loams that are well-suited to both pasture and forestry. This project has also been identified as a recipient of a "Living Carbon" grant, highlighting its dual focus on carbon sequestration and biodiversity restoration.
