Project Information:
Limestone2025R_HandreckL_S3 is a plantation forestry project located in the Southern Grampians region of Victoria, south of Hamilton. Registered in December 2024, the project covers an area of 98.35 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects under the 2022 methodology determination generally involve establishing new plantations, modifying commercial harvesting cycles, or avoiding the clearing of plantation forests. For this specific project, the standard activity involves continuing the plantation cycle to sequester carbon by avoiding the conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation forest into non-forested land. By maintaining the forestry operations, the project prevents the carbon emissions that would have occurred had the land been cleared for agricultural use.
The Southern Grampians area is characterised by its rich volcanic plains. The region sits within a high rainfall zone and features highly fertile soils, often dominated by heavy clays and basalts. This lush environment has historically supported a highly productive pastoral industry, dense broad-acre livestock grazing, and robust commercial forestry operations.
Interestingly, the project underwent a variation of proponent on 27 May 2025, transferring from The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1 to OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. SFM Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd is serving as the project agent. Both OneFortyOne Plantations and SFM Environmental Solutions are prominent participants in the local timber industry. They manage extensive forestry assets within the nearby Green Triangle region along the Victoria/South Australia border, including the broader "Limestone Plantations" estate to which this specific parcel belongs.
