Ydontchatwo Project
ERF194873
Project Information:
The Ydontchatwo Project is a reforestation initiative located in the Avon Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 15 kilometers south of the township of Beverley and roughly 130 kilometers southeast of Perth. Registered in August 2024, the project covers a total area of 76.27 hectares. The surrounding region is predominantly agricultural, characterized by broadacre cropping (wheat, canola) and sheep grazing, which aligns with the project's note that the land was previously used for agricultural purposes.
This project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) (Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings, FullCAM) Methodology Determination 2014. This methodology involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree species, such as mixed eucalypts or mallees, on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years. The project utilizes the FullCAM model to estimate carbon sequestration in the growing biomass. To meet compliance standards, the planting must occur at a density sufficient to achieve "forest cover" status, defined as a canopy cover of at least 20% and a height of at least 2 meters.
Environmentally, the Beverley region experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The average annual rainfall is approximately 415mm, which supports the establishment of native drought-tolerant species but requires careful management during seedling establishment. The local soil composition typically includes sandy loams, duplex soils (sand over clay), and lateritic gravels, which are characteristic of the Western Australian Wheatbelt and suitable for the native vegetation selected for this project.
The proponent, YDONT-CHA AGRICULTURE PTY LTD, is a Western Australian private company registered in May 2024. The project's name, "Ydontchatwo," suggests it may be part of a sequence of environmental initiatives by the proponent on this or associated properties. By converting marginal agricultural land back to native vegetation, the project aims to improve local biodiversity and soil stability while generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
