Vale Carbon Project 4

Project Information:
Vale Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon project located in the Naracoorte Lucindale area, approximately 330km south-east of Adelaide in South Australia. It was registered in August 2024 and covers 103.59 ha.
Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models projects involve introducing new or materially different management activities to increase the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils. The total carbon sequestered is then calculated through a combination of baseline soil sampling and ongoing measurement paired with models.
The Naracoorte Lucindale area is predominantly rural and is well known for cereal cropping, sheep and cattle grazing, dairy farming, and viticulture. The region experiences reliable annual rainfall of around 550 to 665 mm, and the soils typically consist of shallow sandy loams or loams over clay on top of limestone or calcrete, formed from ancient coastal dunes.
This project was set up to increase soil carbon in the agricultural system by applying nutrients such as synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address material deficiencies, applying lime or other ameliorants to remediate acid soils, re-establishing pastures by seeding or pasture cropping, and altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote soil health and vegetation cover. The project proponent is Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Agriprove, which is one of Australia's largest soil carbon project developers.
