Vale Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Vale Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Naracoorte Lucindale region of South Australia, approximately 12km southeast of the town of Padthaway and 30km northwest of Naracoorte. Registered on August 12, 2024, the project covers a relatively small area of 64.53 hectares.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon sequestration methodology (Measurement and Models). This method requires landholders to establish a baseline of soil carbon through physical sampling and then implement new management activities to increase those levels over time. Credits are issued based on the measured or modelled increase in soil carbon stocks.

The surrounding Limestone Coast region is a prime agricultural zone, primarily utilized for livestock grazing (sheep and cattle) and viticulture. The environment typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with moderate rainfall, averaging between 500mm and 600mm annually. While the region is famous for terra rossa soils, the project area likely contains sandy loams over clay, as evidenced by the project's specific activity of applying lime to remediate acid soils, a common issue in the sandy soils of this district.

Specific activities for Vale Carbon Project 2 include rejuvenating pastures via seeding, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and altering grazing intensity to improve soil health. The project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia.
