Lloyd Carbon Project 8

Project Information:

Lloyd Carbon Project 8 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 10km south of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in October 2024, the project covers nearly 132 hectares of agricultural land, situated in an area heavily utilised for mixed farming operations including winter cereal cropping (wheat and canola) and sheep grazing.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing new management activities that measurably increase soil carbon stocks over time. Specific activities for this project include converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices, retaining crop stubble, and re-establishing pastures on previously cropped or fallow land. Additionally, the project employs nutrient applications to address soil deficiencies and alters grazing intensity to promote vegetation cover.

The Temora region is defined by a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 530mm. The local soil landscape is dominated by Red Chromosols (also known as red-brown earths), which are considered the "workhorse" soils of NSW agriculture due to their favorable physical properties, though they can be susceptible to acidity and structure decline if over-cultivated. This project is facilitated by Agriprove, a prominent soil carbon developer, and the "Lloyd" designation implies it is likely one of several aggregated project areas belonging to a single landholder or farming entity in the district.
