McGauran Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

McGauran Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Strathbogie Shire of Victoria, approximately 12km north of the major regional town of Seymour. Registered on August 27, 2024, the project covers a land area of 55.78 hectares. The surrounding Northwood and Seymour region is characterized by undulating agricultural land, primarily utilized for sheep and cattle grazing as well as dryland cropping, supported by the Goulburn River system. The area typically experiences a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of around 600mm, featuring soil types that range from river valley loams to granitic sandy loams common in the Strathbogie ranges.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. Specifically, this project aims to boost soil carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing soil fertility, the project seeks to enhance plant growth and root biomass, which in turn captures atmospheric carbon and stores it in the soil profile.

Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd serves as the project proponent, consistent with their business model of aggregating and managing soil carbon projects for Australian farmers. The existence of a "Project 3" alongside a "Project 1" in the public register suggests this initiative is part of a broader engagement or a multi-stage rollout across the landholder's properties. Agriprove typically utilizes digital platforms and remote sensing to streamline the measurement and reporting process for these credits.
