Lemonade Valley Planting Project
ERF193572
Project Information:
Lemonade Valley Planting Project is a reforestation project located in the Shire of Kellerberrin, approximately 200 kilometers east of Perth and 20 kilometers southwest of the township of Kellerberrin in Western Australia. Registered in June 2024, the project covers a total area of 216 hectares. The site is situated within the state’s Central Wheatbelt, a region historically dominated by broadacre cropping and sheep grazing.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species on land that was previously cleared for agricultural use. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the planting must be designed to achieve forest cover, typically requiring a stocking density sufficient to reach at least 20% canopy cover and a height of two meters. The specific variation used here utilizes the FullCAM model to estimate carbon sequestration based on the growth rates of the planted species.
Environmentally, the Kellerberrin region is characterized by a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Annual rainfall averages around 325mm. The local landscape features a mix of sandy loams and clay soils, often associated with granite outcrops and ancient drainage systems typical of the Yilgarn Craton.
An interesting aspect of this project is the proponent's likely connection to the apiary industry. Public records link the proponent, Lemonade Valley Pty Ltd, to business names such as "Mount Caroline Active Honey," suggesting the revegetation effort may provide dual benefits by supporting biodiversity and honey production alongside carbon sequestration.
