Wandoo Rise Reforestation Project

Project Information:
Wandoo Rise Reforestation Project is an environmental planting project located near Bakers Hill, approximately 20km west of Northam and 70km east of Perth in Western Australia. Registered in July 2024, the project covers a total area of 123.50 hectares.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree species, such as the Eucalyptus wandoo (Wandoo) implied by the project name, on land that was previously cleared for agricultural use. The planting density is managed to ensure the trees achieve forest cover status, typically defined as reaching a height of at least 2 meters and a canopy cover of 20% or more.
The Bakers Hill region sits within the Avon Valley on the edge of the Darling Range, an area traditionally used for mixed farming, including sheep grazing and cereal cropping. The environment features a Mediterranean climate with a medium rainfall classification, averaging approximately 600mm annually, which falls predominantly in winter. The soil profile in this locality generally consists of lateritic gravels and sandy loams over clay subsoils, providing suitable conditions for the re-establishment of native Wandoo and Marri woodlands.
This project was specifically designed to transition land that had been used for agriculture for at least five years prior to the project's commencement back into native vegetation.
