The Plantation Carbon Project (Revoked)
ERF193016
Project Information:
The Plantation Carbon Project (Revoked) is a soil organic carbon project located in the Liverpool Plains region, approximately 8km southeast of Premer and 65km west of Quirindi in NSW. It was registered in July 2024 and covers 1169.64 ha.
Soil organic carbon projects involve implementing new agricultural management practices to build and store carbon in the soil. Standard requirements include establishing a baseline carbon level and maintaining the new management activities, while conducting regular soil sampling or modeling to verify carbon sequestration over the project's operational life.
The Liverpool Plains area is well-known for prime agricultural broadacre cropping, including wheat, sorghum, and cotton, alongside livestock grazing. The region generally experiences reliable summer-dominant rainfall and features deep, fertile black cracking clay soils derived from ancient basalt volcanism.
This project aimed to increase carbon in the soil by applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizer to address a material deficiency. The project proponent, Loam Carbon Pty Ltd, is a notable Australian agricultural technology company known for developing a microbial seed coating that enhances carbon capture in agricultural soils. However, on 18 May 2026, the project was officially revoked under section 30 of the CFI Rule.
