Romani Carbon Project

Project Information:
Romani Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 30km south-west of Forbes in the Central West region of NSW. It was registered in July 2024 and covers 830.24ha.
Soil carbon projects measured under the Measurement and Models methodology involve changing land management practices to build soil organic carbon. The standard requirements include rigorous baseline soil sampling, creating a land management strategy, and undertaking eligible new management activities. For this project, the core activity is applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency.
The Forbes area is well known for mixed farming operations, primarily broadacre cropping like wheat and canola, alongside cattle and sheep grazing. The area is considered a moderate rainfall zone, averaging roughly 530mm annually. Soils are generally fertile grey cracking clays or red clay loams (chromosols) which can be prone to hardsetting.
This project's proponent, Loam Carbon Pty Ltd, is an innovative agricultural company known for using microbial and fungal seed treatments to help crops capture and store more carbon directly in agricultural soils. In October 2025, a variation was made to the project to remove some previously listed areas from the project boundary.
