Alston Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Alston Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Moira Shire, approximately 6km northwest of the major regional town of Yarrawonga in northern Victoria. Registered on October 28, 2024, the project operates across an agricultural area of roughly 119 hectares.
The surrounding Yarrawonga region is a key agricultural hub within the Murray River basin, widely utilized for mixed farming operations including dryland cropping and livestock grazing. The area typically experiences a temperate to semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm to 500mm. The local landscape generally features texture-contrast soils, often comprising sandy or clay loams overlying heavier clay subsoils, which provide a suitable baseline for soil carbon accumulation.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). Its specific management strategy involves applying nutrients, in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers, to the land to correct material deficiencies. By addressing these nutrient gaps, the project aims to enhance pasture growth and root biomass, thereby accelerating the sequestration of carbon into the soil profile. The project is facilitated by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon market.
