Land Connection Program at Milford Road

Project Information:
Land Connection Program at Milford Road is an environmental planting project located at Dumbalk North, approximately 29km east of Leongatha and 160km southeast of Melbourne in Victoria [1]. It was registered in January 2024 and covers an area of 144.68 hectares [1].
Environmental planting projects involve establishing and maintaining permanent mixed-species plantings of native trees [1]. Under the FullCAM methodology, these projects must use species native to the local area and plant them at a density sufficient to achieve forest cover, which typically requires a stocking density of at least 200 stems per hectare.
The South Gippsland region around Dumbalk North is predominately known for highly productive dairy farming, broadacre livestock grazing, and cropping operations. The area is considered a high rainfall zone, with average annual rainfall typically ranging between 900mm to over 1000mm. The soils in the region are generally classified as acidic brown and grey Dermosols alongside friable clay loams.
This project establishes permanent plantings on land that was predominantly used for agricultural purposes for at least five years prior to commencement [1]. Originally registered under the 2014 method, it transitioned to the 2024 Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology on April 14, 2026 [1]. Shortly after, the project area was expanded with new acreage added on April 29, 2026 [1]. The nominated permanence period for the project is 100 years [1].
