Project Information:

Tippendale Human Induced Regeneration Project (2.0) is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located approximately 60km west of St George in the Balonne Shire of Queensland. Registered in September 2023, the project covers a significant area of 10,095 hectares. The property, "Tippendale," is situated along the Balonne Highway and has historically been utilized for grazing sheep and cattle. The region is predominantly agricultural, with land use focused on pastoral activities and dryland cropping.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which involves implementing land management changes to allow native forests to regenerate. Unlike tree planting, this method focuses on the cessation of activities that suppress regrowth, such as managing the timing and extent of grazing and controlling feral animals. By reducing grazing pressure, the project aims to allow native vegetation, specifically species like Mulga, Box, Wilga, and Sandalwood, to re-establish forest cover from in-situ seed sources and rootstock.

The environment in this part of the Balonne region is characterized as semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm to 500mm. The landscape typically features red earth and sandy loam soils, often supporting "soft mulga" country, though some areas may contain heavier grey clays suitable for buffel grass pastures.

The project proponent, Pastoral Partners Australia (PPA), is an investment vehicle backed by the infrastructure investor Morrison & Co. PPA utilizes a specific model where they acquire grazing properties to develop carbon projects while leasing the land back to local graziers for sustainable livestock production. The "2.0" in the project name likely distinguishes this registration from other potential phases or previous carbon estimations on the wider Tippendale aggregation, which PPA acquired as part of a larger portfolio expansion in Southwest Queensland.
