Landari Waterhouse 2023

Project Information:

Landari Waterhouse 2023 is a plantation forestry project located in the rural locality of Waterhouse in North East Tasmania, approximately 35km northeast of the major town of Scottsdale. It was registered in October 2024 and covers a project area of 363.86 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects involve establishing, maintaining, and managing a new forest intended for the commercial harvesting of wood products. A standard requirement for these projects to meet the Australian definition of a forest is achieving a minimum of 20% canopy cover at 2 metres in height, though commercial plantings in this methodology are typically established at initial high stocking densities of around 1,000 stems per hectare. The sequestration occurs as the trees grow and store carbon as woody biomass before being systematically harvested and replanted.

The Waterhouse region and broader North East Tasmania is known for its commercial forestry operations, coastal dunes, dairy farming, and cattle grazing. The area is classified as having a moderate to high rainfall climate. Soils in this coastal plain region generally consist of coastal sands, podzols, and sandy loams which provide highly suitable conditions for commercial plantation species such as eucalyptus and radiata pine.

This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest under the Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry methodology. The proponent, LANDARI PTY LTD, has locked in a nominated permanence period of 25 years for the project. Additionally, there was a variation applied to the project on 17 December 2025, where the designated land areas listed in the project were officially amended.
