The project involves a "group of vehicles" approach, focusing on reducing the emissions intensity of CTI Logistics' extensive fleet, which includes over 750 vehicles ranging from courier vans to triple road trains. The methodology credits abatement by comparing the fuel emissions of the project fleet against a baseline of historical performance. Specific activities authorized for this project include replacing older trucks with more efficient models, modifying existing vehicles to improve aerodynamics or fuel burn, changing energy sources, and optimizing operational practices to reduce fuel consumption per unit of freight moved.

The primary operational hub in Hazelmere sits on the Swan Coastal Plain, a region characterized by sandy soils, specifically the Bassendean Dune system, and heavy clay elements near the river systems. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, typically receiving around 700-800mm of rainfall annually. While these environmental factors do not directly influence the mechanical performance of the trucks, they define the conditions of the depots where the fleet is managed and maintained.

An interesting aspect of this project is its alignment with CTI Logistics' broader corporate strategy; the company reported a $5.5 million investment in vehicle upgrades specifically to reduce running costs and emissions in their 2023 financial reporting.
