Denroy Regeneration Project

Project Information:

The Denroy Regeneration Project is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located approximately 36km north-west of Cobar in the Orana region of New South Wales. Registered on September 10, 2023, the project covers a considerable area of 5,069 hectares on the "Denroy" pastoral holding. This property is situated in the Cobar Peneplain bioregion, an area traditionally defined by grazing operations for sheep (particularly Dorper) and goats.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which credits carbon abatement for regenerating native forest where it has been suppressed for at least 10 years. Practically, this involves changes in land management, such as controlling feral animals (goats) and managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing to allow native vegetation to recover. The "Denroy" property is characterized by red loam soils and slightly undulating red rises, supporting native timber species such as Mulga, Wilga, Bimble Box, and Yarran.

The region experiences a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 350mm. The landscape includes features such as Buckwaroon Creek, which creates grey soil flood-out flats interspersed with the dominant red earth country. The project is managed by IJ Francisco Investments Pty Ltd (acting for the Tenacity Super Fund) with the assistance of carbon service provider Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.
