Strathpark Human-Induced Regeneration Project
ERF187006
Project Information:
Strathpark Human-Induced Regeneration Project is a large-scale land sector carbon project located on Strathpark Station, approximately 140km north of Richmond and southeast of Croydon in Queensland's Gulf Country. Registered in September 2023, the project covers a vast area of 104,485 hectares. The region is historically significant for extensive cattle grazing, with Strathpark Station specifically known as a large-scale "weaner factory" capable of carrying thousands of breeders.
The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology. This method requires the suppression of negative activities, such as mechanical clearing or intensive grazing, to allow native vegetation to regenerate from in-situ seed banks, rootstocks, and lignotubers. For Strathpark, the primary project activity involves managing the timing and extent of grazing pressure to facilitate the restoration of permanent native forest cover.
Environmentally, the area experiences a semi-arid to tropical savanna climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, receiving an annual rainfall of approximately 650mm. The terrain is described as slightly undulating forest grazing country, dissected by the Norman River, featuring soils that support native forest regrowth and pastures such as buffel grass.
