Grills Environmental Plantings Project
ERF185521
Project Information:
Grills Environmental Plantings Project is a boutique environmental planting project located in Connewarre, approximately 15km southeast of Geelong on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. Registered in August 2023, the project currently covers a small area of 0.34 hectares, following a variation in May 2025 where previously listed areas were removed from the project scope.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM methodology, which involves establishing permanent native vegetation on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years. Projects of this type generally require planting native trees and shrubs at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare to achieve forest cover, sequestering carbon in the biomass as the trees mature.
The Connewarre and greater Bellarine region is traditionally known for mixed farming and grazing, supported by a temperate climate with moderate rainfall averaging around 600mm annually. The local soils are variable, often featuring a mix of volcanic clays and sandy loams typical of the peninsula. This specific project involves planting a mix of species native to the local area, aiming to restore vegetation on land previously used for agriculture.
