Wiltoo (Revoked)
ERF185496
Project Information:
Wiltoo (Revoked) is an environmental planting project located at the "Wiltoo" property, approximately 50km northwest of Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The project was registered in September 2023 and covered an area of nearly 35 hectares before being revoked in October 2025.
The project operated under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology, which incentivizes the establishment of permanent native forests on land previously cleared for agriculture. Under this method, proponents plant mixed species native to the local area, typically at a density sufficient to achieve forest cover, and model the sequestered carbon using the FullCAM software rather than direct field measurements. These projects are designed to remain permanent for either 25 or 100 years to ensure long-term abatement.
The Lower Eyre Peninsula region surrounding the project is a premier agricultural zone, widely recognized for broadacre cropping of wheat, barley, and canola, as well as livestock grazing. The area enjoys a reliable Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 425mm to 500mm. The soils in this vicinity, particularly around the Cummins aggregation where Viridis Ag operates, are typically fertile red and brown sandy loams, though some areas may feature ironstone gravels or calcareous profiles.
The proponent, Viridis Ag, is a prominent corporate agricultural asset manager owned by Macquarie Asset Management. While the project has been revoked, indicating it was withdrawn from the ACCU scheme and will not be issued Australian Carbon Credit Units, Viridis Ag actively manages the Wiltoo property for cropping and innovation. Notably, the company has utilized the site to trial autonomous agricultural technology, such as "AutoTrack" turn automation for machinery. The revocation may suggest a strategic shift toward internal carbon "insetting" to meet corporate sustainability goals rather than generating tradeable offsets.
