Wingello Park Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Wingello Park Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the village of Wingello in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Situated approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Moss Vale and 50 kilometres northeast of Goulburn, the project operates within the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government Area. It was registered in August 2024 and covers a project area of approximately 513 hectares.
The region is characterized by a temperate climate with moderate to high rainfall, averaging over 1,000mm annually, which supports robust pasture growth. The local terrain generally consists of rolling hills with soils that can range from sandy loams derived from sandstone to more fertile clay loams. The specific activities listed for this project, such as applying lime to remediate acid soils and using gypsum for sodic soils, suggest the land requires soil amelioration to optimize its carbon-storing potential. The area is traditionally utilized for grazing livestock and mixed farming, bordered by significant forestry operations in the nearby Wingello State Forest.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks over time. To achieve this, the proponent, Twynam Investments, has committed to a suite of new management activities. These include altering stocking rates to improve ground cover, rejuvenating pastures with legumes, and applying ameliorants like lime and gypsum. By addressing chemical constraints (acidity) and optimizing grazing pressure, the project aims to enhance plant growth and root biomass, thereby sequestering more atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
Twynam Investments is a prominent Australian agricultural entity known for its extensive portfolio and recent pivot toward climate-tech investments through its "Earth Fund." The Wingello Park property itself is a historic holding for the group, aligning this project with the company's broader corporate strategy of decarbonization and regenerative agriculture.
