Twin Peaks Station

Project Information:
Twin Peaks Station is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located in the Murchison region of Western Australia, approximately 155 kilometers north of Mullewa. Registered in March 2023, the project spans a massive 104,909 hectares of pastoral land. The region is traditionally used for extensive grazing of sheep and cattle, operating under the state's pastoral lease system.
The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology, which involves regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been suppressed by activities such as grazing. By managing the timing and extent of grazing, often through rotational grazing or fencing to exclude livestock from specific areas, the project allows native vegetation to recover and reach forest potential. To qualify, the land must have the potential to attain a forest cover of at least 20% crown cover and a height of 2 meters.
Environmentally, the Murchison region is classified as semi-arid to arid, with a low average annual rainfall of approximately 200–250mm, occurring mostly in winter. The landscape is characterized by low Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands and shrublands on red sandy earths and shallow loams. The soil types often include "hardpan" wash plains which require careful management to prevent erosion and support vegetation growth.
Twin Peaks Station itself holds significant historical value; it was established as a station in 1900 by Alfred Charles Boddington. The station homestead, constructed in 1919 from local stone and mud-brick, is heritage-listed and noted for its adaptation to the harsh climate. The proponent, AI Carbon Projects No 3 Pty Ltd, is a special purpose vehicle of Australian Integrated Carbon (AI Carbon), a company that partners with landholders to develop carbon farming projects across the Australian rangelands.
