Kerin Food & Fibre Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Kerin Food & Fibre Carbon Project is a soil carbon agricultural project located in the Central West region of New South Wales, approximately 50km southwest of Dubbo. Registered in March 2024, the project covers over 4,055 hectares and encompasses the proponent's properties, including 'Gullengamble' near Yeoval and 'Kalula' near Tomingley.
The Central West region is a major hub for mixed farming, where land is heavily utilized for sheep and cattle grazing as well as dryland cropping. The local environment is classified as temperate, receiving an average annual rainfall between 550mm and 650mm. The landscape is dominated by Red Dermosols and Chromosols, soils characterized by red silty loams and clays that are naturally productive but often require management to address acidity or nutrient gaps.
Operating under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, this project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by sequestering carbon in the soil. The specific management activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material nutrient deficiencies. By correcting these imbalances, the project aims to boost pasture biomass and root growth, thereby increasing the rate at which carbon is stored in the soil profile. The proponent, Yerongo Pty Ltd (trading as Kerin Food & Fibre), is an active family-run agribusiness known for producing high-quality livestock, including Aussie White sheep and cattle.
