Richardson Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Richardson Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Shire of Cunderdin, Western Australia. Situated approximately 20 kilometers north of the town of Cunderdin and 160 kilometers east of Perth, the project was registered in January 2024 and covers a land area of roughly 244 hectares. The surrounding region is part of the central Wheatbelt, a landscape heavily utilized for dryland cropping and sheep grazing.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology, which credits landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing nutrient availability, the project seeks to boost plant growth and root biomass, thereby increasing the input of organic matter into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Cunderdin region is characterized by a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Average annual rainfall is typically around 360mm. The local terrain lies within the "Zone of Ancient Drainage," featuring gently undulating sandplains and soils that are predominantly sandy loams or duplex types (sand over clay), which can be naturally low in organic carbon and susceptible to acidity or salinity without careful management.
The project is developed by Agriprove, Australia's largest soil carbon project developer. The naming convention "Richardson Carbon Project 2" suggests it is part of a larger aggregation of projects managed by the same landholding family, potentially running alongside a "Project 1" or "Project 3" to stagger baselining and crediting periods across different land parcels.
