Punch Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Punch Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Shire of Cunderdin, approximately 20km north-west of the town of Cunderdin in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region. Registered in November 2023, the project covers 116.52 hectares of agricultural land. The region is heavily utilized for broadacre cropping, primarily wheat, canola, and barley, and livestock grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which incentivizes landholders to adopt new management practices that store carbon in the soil. Specific activities for this project include retaining crop stubble after harvest and applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. These changes are designed to improve soil health and increase organic carbon levels over the project's crediting period.

Environmentally, the Cunderdin region experiences a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 350mm to 370mm, falling mostly in winter. The local soil profile typically consists of sandy loams and duplex soils (sand over clay), which are naturally low in organic matter. This makes them suitable candidates for carbon farming, as there is significant potential for sequestration when soil constraints are addressed.

The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, Australia's largest developer of soil carbon projects. It appears to be associated with "Punch Carbon Project 1," suggesting the landholder has split their property into multiple project areas or stages.
