Acevan Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:

Acevan Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the fertile Liverpool Plains region of New South Wales, roughly 65 kilometers southwest of the township of Gunnedah and near the village of Premer. Registered on August 3, 2023, the project covers approximately 209 hectares within the Narrabri Shire Council area.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon stocks through changes in land management. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic nutrients to address soil deficiencies, establishing permanent pastures on land previously used for cropping or fallow, and introducing legume species. Additionally, the proponent, Luke Geoffrey Evans, intends to alter grazing intensity and duration to improve vegetation cover and soil health.

The Liverpool Plains are renowned for their highly productive agricultural environment, characterized by deep, black vertosol soils (cracking clays) which are considered among the most fertile in Australia. The region typically experiences a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 600mm to 650mm, supporting a mix of extensive cropping and livestock grazing. Tucker Environmental Pty Ltd serves as the project participant, providing advisory and facilitation services for the carbon estimation and reporting process.
