Yimkin Regeneration Project

Project Information:

Yimkin Regeneration Project is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located on the "Yimkin" pastoral station, approximately 77 kilometers northeast of Cobar and 98 kilometers west of Nyngan in New South Wales. Registered on March 22, 2023, the project initially covered 14,051 hectares within the Cobar Peneplain bioregion.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which generates carbon credits by regenerating permanent native forests from existing seed sources, rootstock, or lignotubers. Unlike tree planting projects, HIR relies on the cessation of suppression activities, in this case, the project specifically targets the management of feral animals to reduce grazing pressure. This allows native vegetation, which had been suppressed for at least 10 years prior to the project, to recover and reach forest cover status.

The surrounding region is characterized by a semi-arid climate and predominantly red loam soils, which typically support grazing activities and native timber such as White Cypress Pine, Wilga, and Bimble Box. Historical property listings indicate the land was previously utilized for goat breeding, a land-use history that aligns with the project's focus on controlling feral grazing pressure. In April 2025, the project underwent a variation where specific areas were removed from the project boundary. The project is managed by proponent Carbfarm Pty Ltd with services provided by Climate Friendly Pty Ltd, and it holds a carbon abatement contract with the Australian Government.
