Valdana and The Springs Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
Valdana and The Springs Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, spanning the Denmark and Plantagenet local government areas. Situated approximately 15 to 20 kilometres northeast of the coastal town of Denmark, it was registered in November 2022 and initially covered an area of 640.01 hectares. The surrounding Denmark and Plantagenet region is well known for its diverse agriculture, particularly cattle grazing, dairy farming, and viticulture, alongside robust forestry operations. The local environment is classified as a high-rainfall area, receiving roughly 1,000mm of precipitation annually, with a landscape predominantly characterised by loamy gravels, sandy loams, and underlying clay soils.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. Soil carbon projects aim to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in agricultural soils by altering specific land management practices. This methodology requires regular, rigorous baseline soil sampling and ongoing modelling to accurately measure carbon stock changes over the project's lifespan. For this specific project, carbon sequestration is being driven by the eligible activity of re-establishing or rejuvenating a pasture through seeding or pasture cropping. The project has nominated a permanence period of 25 years, ensuring that the stored carbon is maintained long-term.
The project is managed by the proponent ANDCLA Farming Pty Ltd, acting as the trustee for the A.C. & C.A. Jenkins Family Trust. They are supported by Carbon West Pty Ltd, an active participant serving as the official project agent. A notable development in the project's timeline occurred recently on 14 May 2026, when a variation was recorded to reduce the total project area, officially removing specific sections of land that were originally listed under the project boundary.
