Project Information:

Landari Sapphire 2022 is a plantation forestry project located in the Snowy Monaro region of New South Wales, approximately 20km southeast of the town of Delegate, near the Victorian border. Registered on January 11, 2023, the project covers an area of roughly 527 hectares. The surrounding region is characterized by a mix of forestry operations and agricultural land use, primarily grazing, supported by the area's reliable rainfall and cool climate.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it involves converting an existing short-rotation plantation, typically harvested every 10–15 years for woodchips or pulp, into a long-rotation plantation managed for higher-quality structural timber. By extending the harvest cycle (rotation), the project allows trees to grow larger and store carbon for a longer period. The project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is an Australian company based in Armidale that specializes in carbon and biodiversity offset projects.

Environmentally, the Snowy Monaro and border region typically experiences moderate to high rainfall, which is essential for supporting commercial timber plantations. The soil landscape in this area often features texture-contrast soils such as Chromosols and Kurosols, which consist of loamy topsoils overlying clay subsoils. These soils are widespread in the Southern Slopes of NSW and are well-suited to both pasture and forestry when managed correctly.
