Margaret Jennifer Grove Tree Project

Project Information:
Margaret Jennifer Grove Tree Project is an environmental planting project located in the Shire of Chapman Valley, approximately 115km northeast of Geraldton in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It was registered in May 2023 and covers an impressive 1336.63 hectares.
Environmental planting projects involve establishing permanent plantings of a mix of native tree species to restore vegetation. To meet standard methodology requirements under the ACCU scheme, these projects must typically be planted at a stocking density of at least 200 stems per hectare to ensure the resulting forest can reach a minimum of 2 metres in height and provide at least 20% crown canopy cover over the land.
The Chapman Valley region's land use is primarily driven by broadacre agriculture, with a strong focus on cereal cropping such as wheat, barley, and canola, alongside livestock grazing operations like sheep farming. The local environment features a semi-arid, Mediterranean climate with relatively low annual rainfall averaging between 315mm inland and 400mm near the coast. Soils in this agricultural wheatbelt region generally consist of sandy loams and fertile red clays.
This project was established on land that had been predominantly used for agricultural purposes for at least five years prior to its commencement. Facilitated by The Carbon Farming Foundation Ltd as the project agent, the proponent, Splash World Pty Ltd (as trustee for the Wattle Grove Family Trust), has committed to planting tree species that are strictly native to the local area, helping to restore indigenous ecosystems and biodiversity alongside the traditional farming landscape.
