Project Information:

Carbon and Biodiversity Project ID R2 1506 is an environmental planting project located in the rural locality of Creightons Creek, approximately 17km southeast of Euroa in Victoria's Strathbogie Shire. Registered on April 13, 2023, the project covers a small area of 5.83 hectares. The surrounding region is historically agricultural, predominantly utilized for sheep and cattle grazing due to its favorable pastures.

The project operates under the "Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings" methodology (FullCAM), which facilitates the establishment of permanent native forest cover on land that was previously cleared for agricultural use. The specific determination requires planting species native to the local area, such as those found in the Strathbogie Ranges, to achieve forest cover.

Environmentally, the Creightons Creek area enjoys a relatively high rainfall classification, averaging around 700mm annually, which supports reliable vegetation growth compared to the drier plains further north. The local terrain is characterized by granitic sandy loam soils, typical of the granite hills in the Strathbogie region.

A key feature of this project is its participation in the Australian Government's Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot. As indicated by the project name and proponent details, this initiative partners with farmers to plant diverse native vegetation that provides both carbon sequestration and biodiversity benefits. The project proponent, Christine Helen McKenzie, is listed as a participant in this stewardship program, which aims to improve habitat for local fauna while generating carbon credits.
