Rankin Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Rankin Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the small town of Wolseley, approximately 15 kilometers east of Bordertown in South Australia. Situated in the Tatiara District close to the Victorian border, the project was registered in December 2022 and covers an area of roughly 200 hectares.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the project must demonstrate a measurable increase in soil carbon compared to a baseline. This typically involves an initial round of soil sampling, followed by the implementation of new activities, and subsequent sampling rounds to verify carbon stock increases.
The Tatiara region is a significant mixed farming zone, known for a combination of cropping and grazing. The local environment features a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 475-500mm. The terrain in the Wolseley area generally consists of gently undulating clay plains, often featuring grey cracking clays or sandy loams over clay subsoils.
To drive carbon sequestration, this project involves specific management changes including the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, a transition from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices, and the retention of crop stubble. Additionally, the project activities include rejuvenating pastures by seeding new species and altering grazing intensity to promote vegetation cover. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector.
