Hasluck Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Hasluck Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara District of South Australia, approximately 12 kilometers northwest of the regional center of Bordertown. Registered in October 2022, the project covers 119 hectares of agricultural land. The region, often referred to as "Tatiara" (meaning "Good Country"), is a significant mixed farming area utilized primarily for broadacre cropping and livestock grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) levels through changes in land management practices. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by applying nutrients (synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers) to address material soil deficiencies and retaining crop stubble after harvest. Stubble retention is a critical practice in this region, as it helps preserve soil moisture, reduces erosion, and returns organic matter to the soil profile.

Environmentally, the Bordertown area experiences a Mediterranean climate characterized by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 460-480mm. The local soils are typically texture-contrast profiles, featuring sandy loams or loams over clay subsoils, often associated with limestone or calcrete geology. These soils are generally fertile but benefit significantly from the organic matter inputs and nutrient management strategies employed by this project.

The project is developed by Agriprove Solutions, Australia’s largest facilitator of soil carbon projects. It appears to be part of a cluster of aggregated projects (including Hasluck Carbon Project 1 and 2) likely managed by the same landholder to maximize carbon efficiencies across different parcels of land.
