St Peters Pass Plantation Project

Project Information:
St Peters Pass Plantation Project is a Plantation Forestry project located at St Peters Pass, approximately 7km north of Oatlands in the Southern Midlands region of Tasmania. It was registered in April 2023 and currently covers an area of 412.04 hectares.
Plantation Forestry projects generate carbon credits by establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation, or maintaining existing plantations that were otherwise scheduled to be converted to non-forested land. These projects actively sequester carbon in the growing trees while still allowing for standard forestry management practices, including the commercial harvesting of wood products.
The Southern Midlands area around Oatlands is traditionally known for agricultural land uses, primarily broadacre cropping, sheep grazing, and forestry operations. Situated in the rain shadow of the Central Highlands, the region experiences a cool temperate climate with relatively low annual rainfall, typically ranging between 450 and 500 millimetres. The environment is characterized by highly diverse soil types, predominantly featuring podzolic texture-contrast soils derived from sandstone and Permian mudstone, intermixed with more fertile brown soils resting on Jurassic dolerite hills.
This specific project aims to sequester carbon by avoiding the conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land, while simultaneously establishing a new commercial plantation forest. Notably, in October 2025, the project underwent a formal registered variation to amend the designated land areas within its project boundaries. The project's primary proponent is AN CALA PTY. LTD., and it operates in partnership with the prominent project agent, Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.
