Paradise Creek Carbon Project
ERF176176
Project Information:
The Paradise Creek Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located approximately 35km southeast of Inverell in the New England region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2022, the project originally covered 2,341 hectares, though a variation in July 2025 removed specific areas from the project scope. The proponent, Wyelba Pty Limited (trustee for The Wyelba Trust), works in conjunction with Carbon Link Operations, a specialist carbon service provider, to manage the project's compliance and reporting.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which requires landholders to estimate soil organic carbon sequestration using a combination of physical measurement and modelling. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the project implements new management activities designed to increase soil carbon stocks. Specifically, the Paradise Creek project focuses on altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. These changes aim to improve soil vegetation cover and overall soil health, thereby enhancing the land's capacity to store carbon.
The region surrounding Inverell and the project area is characterized by a mix of grazing and cropping land use, situated on the North West Slopes and Tablelands. The environment is generally classified as temperate with a summer-dominant rainfall pattern, typically averaging around 700mm to 800mm annually. The local geology often supports productive soils, including the basalt-derived "black earths" and clay loams for which the Inverell district, often referred to as "Sapphire City", is renowned. These heavy clay and basalt soils possess a high capacity for carbon sequestration compared to lighter sandy soils.
An interesting aspect of this project is its partnership with Carbon Link, a provider known for utilizing advanced soil sensing technology to streamline the measurement process. The July 2025 variation suggests active management of the project boundary, likely refining the credited area to exclude non-compliant or non-productive zones, a common practice as projects mature and baseline data becomes more precise.
