Paradise Creek Carbon Project
ERF176176
Project Information:
Paradise Creek Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located at the historic Paradise Creek Station, approximately 33km south-east of Inverell in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in September 2022, the project initially covered a larger footprint but was formally varied in July 2025 to remove some previously listed areas, bringing the active project area to 2,341.25 hectares.
Soil carbon projects operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology aim to build soil organic carbon through defined land management changes. This methodology typically requires rigorous baseline soil testing and ongoing sampling, paired with modeling, to accurately measure carbon drawdown. For this specific project, the primary agricultural activity involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of livestock grazing to promote better soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health.
The Inverell region is renowned for its highly productive basalt soils, specifically chocolate and black earths, which provide an ideal foundation for robust agricultural systems. The area experiences a temperate climate with a long-term average annual rainfall of approximately 800 to 871mm. The general land use in this district is heavily dominated by large-scale livestock breeding and backgrounding operations, primarily focusing on cattle and sheep grazing on improved perennial pastures and native grasses.
The project is driven by the proponent Wyelba Pty Limited as the trustee for The Wyelba Trust, an entity historically associated with Wilmot Cattle Co., which is highly regarded in the Australian regenerative agriculture space. Carbon Link Operations Pty Ltd acts as the project agent, assisting with the carbon modeling and administration. Beyond its environmental and agricultural outcomes, Paradise Creek Station boasts a rich cultural heritage. The property was held by the Nicholas family for over 115 years before being sold to Wilmot Cattle Co., and its scenic landscape was famously immortalized by the renowned Australian impressionist painter Tom Roberts.
